NUNOVA — Powered by Cogmed

Support for cognitive complaints

Many people who have suffered injuries after an accident continue to experience long-term cognitive complaints, such as difficulty concentrating and memory problems. This affects their daily functioning and their reintegration.

NUNOVA offers proven effective cognitive training based on the Cogmed programme, with personal guidance. Our approach helps people train their brains in a targeted manner and take steps towards recovery. In this way, we help people move from frustration and stagnation to control and progress.

The brain can recover with the right stimulus(es)

The brain is neuroplastic. This means that the brain has the ability to adapt and recover, provided it is activated in the right way. The Cogmed programme, combined with intensive guidance from NUNOVA, makes this possible.

The role of the prefrontal and parietal cortex in cognitive complaints

The prefrontal and parietal cortex communicate via the frontoparietal network. This network is responsible for a number of crucial cognitive functions.

We are providing you with this information so that you can better understand what these areas of the brain are responsible for. Below is a brief explanation of the role of the prefrontal and parietal cortex in cognitive complaints.

Prefrontal cortex (frontal lobe)

  • This area of the brain is responsible for actively retaining and manipulating information.
  • It helps to temporarily store information while a task is being performed (for example: remembering a telephone number while you are dialling it).
  • The prefrontal cortex is also important for planning, attention, focus and goal-oriented behaviour. Functions dependent on a good working memory.

Parietal cortex (parietal lobe)

  • This area is involved in storing spatial and sensory information in working memory.
  • It helps to organise and integrate information, especially in visual-spatial tasks (such as mentally moving or comparing something).

For which complaints should you use
Nunova?

The training is not suitable for people with acute or severe psychiatric disorders (such as psychosis, severe depression, active anxiety disorders). All participants first undergo a careful screening process with us.

If, during this process, it becomes apparent that there are acute complaints that make the training unsuitable at this time, we will signal this in a timely manner and provide appropriate advice.

Concentration problems

Memory problems

Slow information processing

Fatigue or mental exhaustion

Reduced overview and structure

Overstimulation

Difficulty multitasking or switching gears

Feeling of fullness in your head

Personal note from Vincent Hekman

Founder of NUNOVA

“Over the past 19 years, I have had to spend a total of 10 years in rehabilitation after three serious accidents. I know from personal experience how devastating it is when your mind no longer cooperates, when concentrating, remembering or simply functioning is suddenly no longer a given.

The fatigue, the frustration, the feeling of loss… it’s intense. But I also know that recovery is possible. With the right training and guidance, as I experienced myself with Cogmed, I was able to regain my cognitive functioning step by step. That experience – and my belief in neuroplastic recovery – forms the basis of NUNOVA.”

What a fun training programme to do, and how wonderful to see that I am making progress every week. The guidance was also great and very regular. I was in contact with my coach at least twice a week. It really helped me a lot.

Amazing! After 10 weeks of training, the most obvious things are “normal” again. Going shopping without having to go back home because I left the list at home, or having a conversation with friends at the same time. Thank you for your help!

As a mother of four, I could no longer tolerate the stimuli from my children after my accident. It was a very difficult time. By following this training, I was able to tolerate the stimuli from my children again after completing it. Thank you very much!

What a tough training programme. I didn't expect 20 minutes a day to take so much energy. But it has been so worthwhile. After a few weeks, I already had better concentration and could switch gears more quickly in conversations.

The process after registration

After registration, we will contact the participant by telephone to assess together whether the training is appropriate at this time. We will look at the nature of the complaints, the home situation, the daily routine and mental resilience.

Based on this, we determine whether the training can be started in a responsible and meaningful way. If everything is in order, the training can often start within 24 hours.
